How to play

How Awesomeville works

Five card decks and five steps. Here's the whole game, start to finish.

The five decks

Every round is built from five kinds of cards.

Town
A community with its own quirks
Opportunity
A real need worth solving
Bylaws
A rule that shapes your idea
Wildcard
A twist that changes the game
Aha!
A prompt to reflect & learn

The journey

Five steps, start to pitch

Town
Every town has unique characteristics
1
Draw a Town card

Discover your town

Meet your community. Each town has its own personality and quirks — houseboats that drift with the tide, a glowing city under the desert, a place where umbrellas are banned. Those quirks shape everything you build.

Opportunity
Identify real problems and needs
2
Draw 1–3 Opportunity cards

Spot the opportunities

Each Opportunity card names a real community need. Clean water, healthy food, meaningful work, getting around. As a team, choose the one you most want to solve for your town.

Bylaws
Rules and restrictions shape your decision
3
Add your Bylaw

Build your business

Turn your idea into a business that fits the town and solves the opportunity. Your Bylaw card adds one real business concept you have to work in, like how you make money, who you serve, or a partnership you have to build around.

Wildcard
Unexpected events keep you on your toes!
4
Flip a Wildcard

Adapt to a twist

Midway through, flip your Wildcard. Something changes: a competitor arrives, tourism suddenly doubles, your business is now illegal. Adapt your idea and keep going — exactly like real founders do.

Aha!
Pause, reflect, and discover what you've learned
5
Pitch · vote · reflect

Pitch & reflect

Present your business to the room in a minute or two, then vote for the best solution, the best pitch, and the most creative idea. Finish with an Aha! card to reflect on what your team learned.

The worksheet

The Business Blueprint

One page that holds the whole idea. Teams fill it in as they build, and it becomes the script for their pitch.

Six boxes, not sixteen. It's printable from the resource hub, and there's a blank version if you'd rather teams draw their own.
